Don’t Make Dispute Resolution Harder Than It Needs to Be

Resolving a dispute is challenging. Both sides enter a mediation firmly set on the outcome they want to reach. Often, they are upset and afraid. Add on the administrative difficulties of organizing and paying for travel and a difficult situation can get worse. Enter online dispute resolution, a new service that allows you to participate in every stage of the mediation process remotely over secure videoconference.

What is Online Dispute Resolution?

If you are familiar with mediation, you already know what to expect from online dispute resolution. As a mediator, my job is to take conflicting ideas and intense emotions and create an environment where you can settle your dispute, if it's meant to settle. That environment can be face to face, or through video conferencing. The mediation process is the same, all that changes is the way it is delivered. Without the need to travel and have all the parties in the same place, online dispute resolution saves valuable time and money.

New to online dispute resolution? We've done this enough times, we think we have some useful tips to share. Watch Karl's presentation below or download our Remote Advocacy Resource Guide (PDF) to learn more.

Online dispute resolution also offers a great deal of flexibility. Think of online dispute resolution like a bespoke dress or suit. Every dispute is different, and the mediation proceeds needs to reflect that. That’s where we come in, acting as tailors to make recommendations and work with you to craft the ideal mediation. And we understand that choosing the proper tool to resolve your dispute is a difficult process to navigate.

The technology is not magic however, the hard work still has to be done. For you to get what you want, you’re going to have to have a fair fight. To have a fair fight, people need two things: a safe place and a referee who’s not afraid of fighters. The safe space is easy, with online dispute resolution you can fight from the comfort of your own office, or wherever else you choose. Karl then acts as the referee, and along with Alyson, can help both parties safely release their emotions and come together to reach a wise and efficient result.
